      The red light means you need to call an Appliance Repairman, to diagnose the problem and correct the fault, WBMS

        i have since found out the cause of the red light is 'no salt', which i have now rectified.

        Salt is a regenerative component part of your water softener, the hardness detector is detecting "Hard" water, WBMG
