Any kind of nursery rhyme books, especially

if they have beautiful illustrations.

The rhymes are simple,so the baby learns to

identify them quickly and the book itself will be a

keepsake treasure for them always.

I don`t think you can beat buying a "magical"book!!...I have kept many of my childhood books..they are just so special and sentimental!!:-)

Books are always great. Anything to try and get kids into that good habit it wonderful. How well are you connected to this family? The gift, in our culture, should be more substantial the closer that you are related. The First Birthday is special, and maybe a book and money for his education would be appropriate.
