Dear Colleen, no I do not have a snake int he house, I need to snake proof the cage or rather a avery because it will be located in the garden. Snakes come visiting now and then, so to protect my birds I am designing a cage/avery to be snake proof.
You should check with a professional about this. But I would use heavy small gauge wire and make sure it's a cement floor with the bottom of the fencing secure to that floor and a mesh from the ground to about 1/2 way up the aviary so small snakes can 't get through. Personally I do not agree with out door aviaries. I have 19 birds and their flight cages are inside.

Why would you even have a snake in the house with birds? You know the birds can sense the snake and they will always be uneasy and nervous knowing there is a snake around. Would you live with a bear? Pick one. Snake or bird. Don't be cruel. THINK about the animals you decided to own.
