    3. I saw some kind of rodent droppings in my crawl space of my home. I suspected a rat, so I set a trap. I caught one within a day or so. I reset the trap and have been checking it. no more. Is it possible to have only one rat as the problem?

          If your trap is perfectly functional, the bait will attract and kill the rodent. Keep it baited and triggered at all times and you'll be rat-free. You may want to set smaller traps for field-mice.
