I'm interested in the Linux operating system because I hear its secure, seldom crashes, is immune to spam etc. When I search the internet for Linux everything that comes up seems to relate to servers or is complicated, even Red Hat.
Is there actually a version thats user friendly to non geeks?

I use Linux Ubuntu on an old laptop which I refurbished. It works well and is user friendly once you get used to the various programs it uses to simulate PC programs. You are correct that it is virus resistant, but it is also free, which is great if you have a computer that has no operating system.

This site has most if not all Linux based variations
http://www.ee.surrey.ac.uk/Teaching/Unix/ This site is for beginners in Linux which is a Unix based system. Linux/ unix are open source systems that allow the user to tweak the system and programs as much as you like. “Boxed” versions of linux are complete programs that do not require a lot of tweaks and upgrades to get fully operational and with boxed versions you also get lots of support . The Boxed versions with technical support typically cost about $70.00 USD. And varies in price internationally. I have used several linux versions and even from OSD these programs work great and are lots of fun.
