No, not a fantasy if you believe in  a creator. The creator loves unconditionally. Animals love unconditionally. People can too if they do not seek to control through love.

No, good parents have it for their children..........

I believe we a born with unconditional love in our hearts and then we are re-taught conditional love.  Sad but true.  Is there anyone in your life that you do not judge?  This person could do anything and your love for them would remain unchanged? Perhaps you would even "catch a bullet" for them.....Forgive them of anything...... When you feel this type of love in your heart for another you get a deep sense of Peace.  There is no fear between you and that person (on your side at least).  As some have mentioned it can be easier to learn unconditional love for a pet or child first and then spread your heart to others

Unconditional love is the Love of God, the only real Love: a limitless, changeless Love that embraces everyone and does not have to be returned in any way. We are forever worthy of unconditional love, because God created us as beings who are both lovable and loving, and our true nature cannot be changed. We can restore our awareness of God in our acceptance of unconditional Love.

    This is lovely

Most parents feel unconditional love for their children, annoying and frustrating as they are at times, my pets ditto, and even the short fat one! (husband)""

No. Majority of people can only love themselves unconditionally, for them to love at all they are programmed to create conditions. It's definitely a generation thing though. I am part of the generation who could never understand the conditions put upon myself to attempt to achieve my parents love, the ones who are supposed to love us unconditionally.

All I can do is try and break the cycle of conditional love where my children are concerned.

Parents really  need to be careful about the way they bring up their children. they are creating instinct within them. We all tend to treat people the way they treat us. When we grow up, if our parents treat us badly as children they have no right to question why we walk away from them the minute that we are able.
