Read, and when you come to words you don't understand, stop and look them up. Eventually, you'll develop a strong vocabulary, and you'll have learned more than you realize. In regards to writing, practice words you have difficulty spelling. You can read books designed to teach you to write better. If you don't understand something the first time you read it, read it over a couple of times...and it will become more easily understood. If not, ask someone who you think might be able to explain it to you.

It's a good skill to have, as so much of life requires it.
