    Check with your state dept. of labor, or the U.S. Dept. of Labor, (of course if you are in the USA).  You may not need a lawyer at all.  File a complaint and they should help you retrieve your money.  Also, bring a television reporter into the mix, that negative publicity sometimes helps.  First, make sure that you are indeed owed what you think, otherwise you will look the fool...
