Barack Obama is the 44th president of the U.S.
Grover Cleveland was the 22nd and the 24th president, when that is said, you can say that Barack Obama is the 43rd president when we now know that Grover Cleveland was president twice. But you should say that Barack Obama is the 44th president of the U.S. and the 43rd person that is president.
