"Square yards" is a measure of Area, with one square yard being 3 ft x 3 ft, (36 inches x 36 inches) and "tons" is a unit of mass, (2000 lbs).
Two dimensional objects are massless, so there is no conversion from square yards to tons, however one exists from cubic yards to tons, if you provide the density.
