    Do magpies put ants or any other insect under their wings?

    A friend of mine was casually watching a magpie in her back yard the other day, the Magpie appeared to be pecking from the ground and then putting whatever it was collecting, under its wing!!! this ritual continued many times- Does anybody know what the magpie was doing???

    The birds use their bills to probe into the earth or otherwise overturn debris in search of food. Smaller prey are swallowed whole, although magpies rub off the stingers of bees and wasps before swallowing.


    This is what the bird could have been doing. Using his wing to rub off the stinger.
