Hi,
Before you do that first think of what files you want to keep. I think of pictures, letters, etc.
Create on a R/W CD or DVD a data disk and save the files for future use leave some space for if needed.
Then repair the beast. Check at first if you got the install disks and if they are working.
If the computer was always a bit of lazy maybe it's a good idea to see if more memory is usefull and payable, or maybe think of a better one.
