    Potassium permanganate solution for washing vegetables should only be used in very low concentrations: about 0.001%. Concentrations of about 1% many harm gastrointestinal tracks and cause throat-burns, nausea, vomiting, abdominal aches, and may also be fatal. Higher concentration may cause suffocation, anemia, and kidney damage.
