I suggest, you talk this over with a legal person, who deals with this kind of issue, where you will get good advice. Cant advise you here,  dont have the knowledge.

If you WERE the purchaser of the life insurance, then it's YOU who would be naming the beneficiaries to the money when you die.  In theory, he could be the purchaser, naming himself as the sole beneficiary in the event of your death.  Call you agent, if possible, and inquire who the beneficiaries are (and what percentage each beneficiary gets).  If you do not like the percentage breakdown, change the beneficiaries and their corresponding percentages.  Don't wait until you die.  By then it's too late!

Texas is a community property state, that's all I know for sure. You need to talk with an atty.  I'm a Texan and I can't help.......
