The height of a bottle of wine is completely based on what it is you purchase. A mini or taster bottle type is about 4 inches high, whereas an average may be around 10-13 inches but there are the ones that are purchased for occasions such as New Years Eve that can be quite a bit larger.

    Gee I wonder why.

basically there are two types of wine bottles, the 750ml and the 1500ml of volume.  They can vary within each of those categories as to the physical size, some taller and thinner, others short and wider bottles.  Are you asking so that you can build some sort of wine rack?  If so go to the local package store, measure the largest sizes and plan on that, so anything will fit in your rack.
