On most if not specific briggs carburetors such as a pulsajet models, can you use carb cleaner withour parts damage?

I was informed by a small engine mechanic on the pulsajet model that there was a check valve (ball) in the top of one of the pickup tubes has a ball valve and carb cleaner tend to turn this ball to mush rendering the carburetor defective?

is thIs true of with some care can one remove the tubes and possibly repair the damage if any by replacing the ball with something such as a respectively small metal ball?
