Both of our cars are paid for and everytime we get our registrations they show a lien. Doesn't the lien holder send in a release?

A release can take up to 3 months to show. The lien holder should have sent you a clear title for the vehicles.

I never received a "clear" title for one of my cars but motor vehicles showed me as the soul owner when I requested it.

A common problem is that the payee should have written on the check "FINAL PAYMENT" to trigger a release of lien by the lender.  The mere fact that you made a final payment alone may not effect such release.  Fax them a note, indicating that a final payment "had been made" and a "request of release of lien is hereby made".

I recently paid off a vehicle loan and received the certificate of title (pink slip) from the lending agency with my name as sole owner.
Perhaps you need to take your owner's certificate to the DMV and have them correct their records.  Don't trust them to handle this with a phone call.
