Updating is not free. You have to buy the maps http://g.factoryoutletstore.com/cat/1641/Garmin-Software.html?cid=6932&chid=1600
On the Garmin site you can enroll for the "free" map updates but the program cost a fee >> http://www.garmin.com/us/maps/
