Unless if you made a backup of the document, its probably gone since you saved over it. Had this happen a few times here at work and we try to see if there was anyway to get it back but no luck.

But sometimes word will create a temp file (if auto save feature is turned on) and it does not always delete the temp file when it exit. You can check and see if you have any temp files in the directory that you save your work doc to and see if you can get any of it back. But if you have a temp file, sometimes its not very readable but might be able to find some stuff. Done it before in the past on other machines.

If you are not sure if you have a backup file you can try searching for it on the computer. Go to start, search, and type in *.doc. (for *.docx for the lastest version of office) Make sure c: is selected: This will find all the word doc files on the computer and you should be able to see if you had a previous one saved anywhere.
