Did you hear? The Federal Appeals Court ruled today that the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional!

"The decision was clear: the law treats same-sex couples as second-class citizens – and that's a violation of fundamental rights."

One step forward for equal rights. The decision is already being appealed however so half step back. If the ruling stands up to the appeal, then the proponents of DOMA will take it to the Supreme Court. If it hits the Supreme Court and is still found to be unconstitutional, then the fight to make gay marriage a Federal decision will begin. So all you states out there who believe writing discrimination into your state constitution will keep your bigotry alive and well, beware. When the black human rights fight was brought to the US Supreme Court, human rights won out over discrimination. It's going to cost you states thousands of dollars to remove the discriminatory law from your constitution. DO YOU HEAR ME CALIFORNIA? You can take your Proposition8 (aka PropH8) and ___________ : )

    You're dripping...excuse me, I meant running.

Astounding to think such bigotry and discrimination is not only in existence but supported by some sectors in this day and age

anyone can see its wrong to give some rights and with hold them rights from others, only criminals should have rights with held

Well California I really have a bad taste for. They allowed gay marriage one year, thousands got married, then the next year they passed proposition8 making it illegal for homosexuals to be married. Now, those who were allowed to marry the year it was legalized have been allowed to remain married but no other gay in the state can be married. Isn't that stupid? This group can be married but you, who also live in the state and pay taxes, can not be. And some people say the homosexuals are making a farce out of marriage? What about the idiot straight people who toy with it and use it like a game holding it over the heads of other human beings? This is not protection of marriage when they do it, it's making a mockery of the idea of marriage. Dimwits.

No, they cheated. They worded the proposed bill in such a way that people ended up voting opposite of what they wanted. It was also illegally funded by out of state churches who in the end got heavily fined for collecting money for the b.s. propaganda that the proponents used for TV, radio and street signs. It's a mess and it's still being fought in CA.

GOOD !!!!!! and it's about time!!!!!!

The 9th district court in California just ruled again that proposition 8 (the amendment that CA added to their state's constitution banning same sex marriage)is unconstitutional. If the idiots trying to support prop 8 want to, they can now take it to the US Supreme court. I do not believe the Supreme court will hear the argument though. Gay marriage may become a reality in California again :)

This is great news, Colleen. Shame on them for rescinding marriage for EVERY citizen, in the first place!
