Can be burned as is or as briquettes. The best and most popular use is to build sheets of "PARTICLE BOARD"  - "PB". PB comes in many thicknesses, widths and lengths. It replaces the plywood and solid wood used for furniture mamufacturing, building idustry, etc. 

wood chips can also be put over soil to suppress weed

yep,William is right in using them in your garden beds, they can look quite attractive, inhibit the growth of weeds as well, but  give the shrubs or ornamental plants a little space by not stacking them directly around the base of the plant. Also if you have a kettle BBQ (Weber) they can be soaked in water and hickory or any flavor you wish, anywhere that sells BBQ's generally have a good variety 

I go with starting fires for bar-b-que. They are fine for that but, mulching is a great idea and quite attractive to boot!
