          prune the dead stuff away...anything that hasnt sprouted can be harmlessly eliminated.  lightly prune to shape any living branches/stems.

              Lilac bushes are best trimmed after they bloom in the spring. do it before new flowers are setting.  buds for next season.

                Consult with a professional landscaper they will give you the right info on pruning bushes and the right time of the year for pruning
