pretty tricky, probably not the job for a DIY project. I know that there are a lot of fancy stair parts, however, the actual construction is better left to the skilled. I had hardwoods installed, including new hardwood stairs, the company who did the floors, didn't do the stairs, as they wanted a craftsman who specialized to do that. I have since installed hardwood floors, but still would not take on finished stairs. I can do the stairs on a deck, but not the finish work required of interior stairs.
