2. Most recently Stephen King's 11/22/63, about a man who travels back in time to prevent the assasination of JFK, (one of his best books).
3. As a teen, I read the entire Kent Family Chronicles, an eight volume historical fiction series by John Jakes (The Bastard, Rebels, Seekers, etc.) It was very exciting to read about the main characters interacting with actual characters in American history.
