    a thrift store went out of busines the owner is giving me all the inventory. he wants something in writing for a tax write off. how do i do this and is there a limit on amount he can write off

    Do an inventory of everything he gave you with an estimate of the value of each item (a reasonable guess is okay).  This will take time and effort, but it sounds like you'll get some good stuff.  Give him a copy and keep the original.
