    Do they have a different kind of linoleum for basement steps then for kitchen floors ?

    something than is non slippery ?  Maybe has some grit to it ?

    I suggest you google basement floors or basement floor coverings.  Large stores like Home Depot and Lowes may be helpful.  Good luck!  Remember to use a moisture proof glue to set the tiles as basements can get damp!!!
