Is there a car mechanic on board. I'm in trouble!

Our three day old  2003 Ford Escape stinks. (I already mentioned that and got some answers that I'll be working on)

There are more problems though. The car pulls to the right when you let go of the steering wheel. I wonder if the tires need aligning (or something) I wonder if the air bags work?!

The air conditioning doesn't work. They say they'll fix that tomorrow. (Monday)

There's a light out in the dash panel.

There is no car manual that you can hold in your hand. They say "All the information on the car is on the computer"  That's not good. What if you take your new car to the mountains and you suddenly find out that you can't work something.

My husband signed a paper to the effect that we wouldn't return the car for any reason. (I thought there was a law that a defective car could be returned in a certain number of days.) The paper he signed is called a Contract Cancellation Agreement.

    The sales office doesn't seem like a high-type place.               Mercy!  : (

lindalou: There it is like magic. I'd never been to ebay. Strange, but true. I printed out the page. The car dealership can pay for my copy. : )

Your computer skills are good, lindilou. I mispelled your name before. Sorry. I like that name.

    lindalou: I have found the on-line manual. I want a hand-held paper manual - old-days type.

At some time I'd like to use the bump button. I don't know where it is. Do you?

The Bump button is not available after you get your first answer. You can always "bump" it by submitting another answer to it (such as the word "bump").

I know that in my own state, used car dealers are supposed to put new inspection stickers on vehicles when they sell them, and by law the vehicle is supposed to pass inspection. It does sound as though you need the front end alligned. They should do that at least, to correct the steering.

The story of the owner's manual being on the computer sounds like bull. If it is, they should at least show it to you.

You can always call the car dealership, and tell them you will be contacting the State police vehicle inspection division regarding re-selling vehicles that are not properly being properly inspected, if they don't fix the steering. They won't want to jeopardize their inspection license and fix it.

I don't think I'd recommend that dealership to anyone, they sound like a bunch of crooks.

You have to keep in mind though, it's an 8-9 year old vehicle. They only go so long before they become rolling junk yards looking for a new part to be replaced. It's just the nature of the beast, when you buy vehicles that old.

Shootah: I doubted that I would even get a response to my very long question. Thank you very much. I will use every single bit of information.
Before we got this used car, we leased a new 2011 Honda Civic. The payments were high and it felt tiny out there in the big-car traffic.

I'm afraid you might be right. But at this point, we'll do the best we can with what we have and what we've done. : (

I forgot to say this Ford Escape will only be driven 200 miles a month. We simply could not afford to put more into it. Strange, but true.

    You do need an alignment!!!

I do believe you and I'll go about finding out how and where to get this done. Have you had a bad experience with your car pulling to the right?

We got an official-looking paper that swore the van had never been in a wreck and the air bags have never been deployed ... How else would it get out of alignment?

This car experience hasn't been good. Maybe it's just my old anxiety disorder acting up.

Cars can get out of alignment by driving on uneven surfaces, through potholes, on rutted country roads..etc. Yes, I actually got into an accident after I havd my tires re-balacned and re-aligned by a comalny that did a poor job. If a tire is leaking or has lower pressure than the others it can also cause you to pull to one side or the other. I am so sorry you are having so much trouble with your "new' car.
