Hey Vinny, I answered the Q this way..well, read everything under my answer and you will see why.
My apologies to Doolittle, I didn't read all the replies therefore i had no understanding of the humor intended.. 'wont bother my grandchildren because I won't have any' (Not verbatim- but that is the drift of what I missed.)

Unfortunately, it was necessary. Bush left Obama a mess. When the economy rebounds and we get our troops home, the debt will shrink to reasonable levels. It was pretty bad under Reagan too, back in the 80s.

Finger pointing is no answer. Obama did not need to add to the deficit. He needed to get spending cut, remove the military from senseless wars sooner, find a way of getting our businesses back home and put more people back to work so they could begin paying taxes again instead of taking from an already over burdened system. He needed to learn the word budget and then learn HOW to budget. The amount of spending and giving away of trillions of dollars to foreign countries is a ridiculous waste of money that should have gone towards the deficit. He borrowed more money just to give money away. This is all on him. He is a scam and a puppet. I nominate him as the worse president these Unites States have ever had to suffer under. The economy is not going to rebound, not as long as he is president. Fixing our economy was never his agenda. He likes it broken. The more people looking for aid from the government means more people he can control and manipulate. They are afraid to say boo to him lest they lose their governmental support. Look at the whole picture not just what you want to see.
Obama is not the worst president, far from it, but he's certainly not the best either. And I agree that finger pointing is not the answer, but your answer blames him for our economic mess which was just beginning when he took office. That's on Bush and the Republican Congress, no one else. I think to say "fixing our economy was never his agenda" is a pretty silly statement, Colleen. The economy is every president's top priority. The fact is, we place too much credit and blame on our president, whether it be Bush or Obama, for our economic woes, when in reality it is a much more complex issue involving many world and business leaders. Ours is a global economy these days.

I'd need to see facts/evidence, also how much of Obama's debt was started/caused by BUSH ADMIN. Because remember CLINTON corrected the debt caused by prior BUSH'S/affiliates and their causes!!!
As many people do, you are confusing the "National Debt," with the "Annual Budget."
A budget is only an estimate of the projected income end spending during the budget year, that runs for the fiscal year starting in the fall of the current year.
Interestingly the Democrats, who have Controlled the Congress since 2006, have NOT presented ANY budget for the last two years, as required by the Constitution. What they have done is pass a "Continuing Resolution," which mealy extends the previous Bridget, including an automatic 5% INCREASE in spending.
Clinton added to the National debt as well, as had EVERY President since 1941.
If you search the "Congressional Record" you will discover that the "Clinton Budget" was put in balance by the Republicans, who controlled Congress at the time.
Three Balanced Budgets were passed by the Republican controlled Congress but Clinton vetoed the first two.
Clinton finally signed the third, after enough of the changes were agreed to by the Democrats Senators, to the point were there were 61 vote to overturn Clinton's veto.

Jack like most REPUBLICANS, taking CREDIT for something the DEMOCRATS DID and ACCUSING the DEMOCRATS when they (REP.) FAIL, SAME OLD, SAME OLD!!! NOW answer my previous ?, HOW MUCH DID BUSH RAISE OUR DEBT IN HIS 8 yrs. in office, HOW MUCH ROLLED OVER INTO OBAMA'S WATCH AND HOW MUCH CONTINUES THAT WAS CAUSED/PUT INTO EFFECT BY BUSH AND HIS PARTY versus HOW MUCH HAS ACTUALLY BEEN CAUSED BY OBAMA AND HIS PARTY???
