S-10 pickup stalls and seems like no gas is getting to the motor when I floor it it really cuts off,
I thought the truck was 1/2 full of gas when I purchased it. A 1989 S-10 chevy pickup. It ran great until it started to sputter. It was then that I found out that the gas gauge was faulty, and I had ran the little remaining gas out and therefore had to sputter home, emptying the tank and whatever dry. Now I replaced a new fuel pump, pumped out the line by turning the key 5 or 6 times to purge it. Dirty gas was expelled, but now it still won't catch. It starts fine, but it seems like no gas is flowing correctly. Please help!

Did you replace the fuel filter when you replaced the fuel pump?

Colleen, I must have said it wrong, I did not replace the fuel PUMP, but only the fuel FILTER. Is the PUMP necessary to replace after an ordeal. One mechanic said all I needed to do now was to put more gas in, and that should do it; I did,it is better, but not up to par.

I would replace the pump. That is what it sounds like to me. You should take it to a garage and have the pump tested before you replace it. They can do a compression test to see if the pump is bad. The other thing it could be is the oxygen mixer. It puts o2 into the fuel to make it burn correctly.
