Why do so many people on here not know how to write a legitimate, detailed, well-written question?

    Here are a few suggestions:

    1) Perhaps the webmasters could write some instructions on how to write a question and screen out those not properly formatted.

    2) Someone could write a book listing a) The most, interesting, difficult or unusual questions asked and answered, and including a section citing the dumbest ones as well. I'd buy it! What do you think?

I knew thie question would generate some interesting answers...

    Russrocks

Thanks again, Lindilou! I'm a newbie!

'Newbie' is that in the Oxford Dictionary? Don't worry about this comment, i checked myself and to my surprise it is there--- ' inexperienced newcomer.'

Thanks for the suggestions Russrocks and here's one for you. The members here can change NOTHING. The administration would be the ones with whom you should speak. At the bottom of the page, you will see "contact". Click there and type away. They will be thrilled to hear from a newbie who, upon arrival, has suggestions for how to change things. (I have learned to "pass" on anything that I need to decipher.)

    great answer.

I believe it has to do with several factors:

    Possible mind altered states.

Newbies to the task of typing, which can be daunting at first go!

Placement of tags and further explanation is neglected.

They have actually been abducted by the computer itself whence they are often immediately whisked away hither and forth into the vast and outreaching arms of this akaQA forum...a phenomenon!!...I am perplexed as well by some enquiries!

    I know....I can see my nose....ooooooo!

For some, English is not their first language.  Some people are in a hurry and aren't careful. Some people aren't using spell-check.  Some people don't have the education or background to be articulate in their writing,

    doolittle

That red line...it isn't always right. Oh, I have been trying to find Your Q about the First Ammendment..... Fox exaggerated all of it! A person got close to a former V.P. started cussing and touched him. The Secret Service simply said they were going to widen the perimeter around those they guard (a right they have always had)...nothing said about Freedom of Speech- just a reideration that verbal threats will be taken seriously- No new laws. I checked with a few folks "in the know" along with Major Newspapers, Legal sites, and TV stations. Just an FYI: Fox News is not well respected in the Washington, DC area (regardless of which political party one belongs too)...they get a lot wrong, put words in people's mouths, etc...
    doolittle

The Government/ The Media...They drive me BONKERS sometimes!!!! You saw how extensively I researched it! Just kept checking- too make sure!

I guess it all depends on what they're smokin' when they ask.

    lindilou

    zaklee maannnn!

I use to think the same as you Russ, after a while you just don't care, as long as you understand the question, that's what counts!

    Dardaigh

    I agree with bulletman.

We are here to try and help find information for people, not critique them, as if we were English teachers.

Though there's nothing wrong with being a teacher, English or otherwise. ;)

    Nice back peddle Dardaigh! haha
    Dardaigh

    Hee hee! Back-paddling. ;)

This question becomes rather boring.Unfortunately not everyone in this world can read, write, spell correctly. Why care ?There is nothing you or i can do about it, what i can do though is help answer the questions, find information etc,  after all this is what akaQA is all about.I am not one to criticize someones intelligence.

    Ann

    Amen.

I for one often use this site a lot  on nightshirt, there are many thought provoking, intelligent questions and answers but if I had go look up how to phrase things, what to ask, or how to answer, I doubt I'd bother, I enjoy some of the flippant banter, trite answers and at 0200 am not always at my sharpest

    We still get that show.
And my mom used to love " Have you Been Served ? " and " Upstairs Downstairs "

You remind me of one of the actors in Jurassic Park.  He was the computer expert or detective that interrogated Sharon Stone.

    His name is Wayne Knight.

NEWMAN! Wayne Knight was arch nemesis "Newman" on the Jerry Seinfeld Show. He was a friend of Kramer's, and a postal worker. Leering creep!

Country bumpkin: I would never hurt such a lovely lady or anyone else, for that matter.:) Besides, I was raising a serious question. It seems to me if someone wants an answer to his or her question he would take the time to write it so it can be answered correctly. Many of them aren't even complete questions. __________________________________________

Bob/PKB: You have arrived at the bottom of the rabbit hole! You will wonder a lot of things as times passes.

    We are not all Legitimate,

    FISH-O

Heck no.... I am a sham Baby!

I have noticed this problem for years as I had many students working part time under my management.  I blame it on Phonetics... They are teaching children to sound things out and spell that way and forgetting, for some inexplicable reason (Probably because of wage freezes), not to teach them how to spell correctly.  If a student can't spell then why would he/she give one hoot about formulating a sentece correctly?

    R U getin this

For the second part of your question... There are all sorts of sites dedicated to each and every "Question" point you make... Jst gogl it

Apparently in this "New and Painful" English "I" no longer needs to be capitalized  ... i know i hre ur pain

R.I.P.  English language and welcome to text messaging.... the phonetic way.

It just doesn't seem important anymore, does it? We had spelling tests (still) in high school and it was considered VERY important!
    FISH-O

I knowm Ducky ... We were lined up in the hallways during elemetary and junior high. All the students... each given words. If we got one wrong we had to sit down ... this went on and on until the last person standing from each grade. The pressure was ridiculous.

I've asked the same question on here at least 3 X  and have never gotten a good answer. Yes, I know there are people here for whom English is not their first language, but the young Americans are not doing any better

    mycatsmom

Many of the questions asked on here are not even questions. They're just bits and pieces of disjointed sentences. Some are only 2 or 3 words long. Or they'll say , " What is the weather going to be in one month in Bolivia" or What was the weather on Dec 17, 1973 ? or they'll say , " What time is is ? " and that question runs all day long.
    Russrocks

Thanks mycatsmom! I'm glad I'm not the only one who expects actual literacy in these questions. Way too many of these are poorly written, and that's a sad commentary on our educational system here in the US and worldwide. Actually, I think the "texting" craze has something to do with it as well.
    Bob/PKB

Spell check: Not sure how come, but when I misspell a word here, it becomes underlined in red. There is nothing that changes the spelling for me; I have to figure it out or look it up. It's not really spell check; it is just there. ????
    FISH-O

Bobette.. I don't get a red line. I am just a spell checking nut. :)

Huh??? Say wat?? LOL! spell? Questions that are understandable? LOL!

    Bob/PKB

doo, I don't know what the thing is that puts the red line under misspelled words. ??? I barely know how to use my computer. Sad.
    Bob/PKB

THANK YOU for the update on that Fox News thing. My mom watches it faithfully; it bothers me alot that they are not being 100% honest. WHO CAN BE TRUSTED IN GOVERNMENT?
    Bob/PKB

I will, doo. Thank you again. (I've been working on a tax return and getting mixed opinions from "specialists". Finally got hold of IRS and will use their official decision, which totally rocks for the taxpayer. Need to document who told me, just in case, though. CMA. Too bad the media doesn't do the same.)

    What Bulletman said.
