Common side dishes and finger foods  served here in the states with BBQ are:

    potato salad

    cole slaw

    pinto beans

    deviled eggs

    macaroni salad

    green beans & maters

Grilled jalapeno's stuffed with cream cheese and wrapped in bacon is the new craze here in Texas.

Are you wanting ideas or recipes?  If you're looking for recipes, I have a delicious side dish recipe for  Tomatoes Vinaigrette. I'll put it on here tonight when I have more time. Just let me know. Good luck.

Coleslaw is an almost universal dish, and everybody has his or her own way of making it. If you've got a favorite, fine. But Sunny Slaw is a simple one that works every time!

    Serves: 4

    Preparation Time: 5 min
    Ingredients

    1/3 cup white vinegar
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/4 cup vegetable oil
    2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons grated or minced onion
1/2 medium-sized green cabbage, shredded or 6 cups shredded green cabbage
    1 cup shredded carrots

    Instructions

In a small bowl, combine vinegar, sugar, oil, salt, and onion.

Place shredded cabbage in a large bowl, pour dressing over cabbage, and toss.

Transfer slaw to a salad bowl and arrange shredded carrots around top to form a decorative border.

Lambshank: Most people seem to like a mayonaise based cole slaw dressing but I don't. I'll look for a mayonaise based recipe and give it to you as well. P. S. Here in the states, we have packages of coleslaw already made and some with a dressing packet inside the bag. Do you guys have this?

Good old-fashioned coleslaw. It's right any time of year with any kind of meal. Country Coleslaw is the creamy mayonnaise kind of coleslaw that we all loved as kids.

    Serves: 10

    Cooking Time: 5 min
    Ingredients

    1 cup mayonnaise
    3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
    2 tablespoons sugar
    1 teaspoon salt
6 cups shredded cabbage (see Note)
1 cup (about 3) shredded carrots
1/2 cup chopped or thinly sliced green bell pepper

    Instructions

In a large bowl, combine mayonnaise, lemon juice, sugar, and salt. Add cabbage, carrots, and green pepper; toss to coat well. Cover and chill until ready to serve.

    Note

A small head of cabbage yields about 8 cups.

    Thanks heaps

Are you to furnish finger foods or just a side dish? For how many people? How about chicken wings? A little messy so need lots of napkins, and I suggest mild instead of hot. Served with a variety of vegy's and dip.

there are about 12-14 of us, we all help out a bit, but as it's my turn to have it at my place I will do a couple of mains and maybe some finger food/sides as well, it's very informal, I did think of chicken wings, I can't get buffalo wings here though and not sure what marinade Americans use (I usually use normal size ones with an Asian marinade

Ah, ok ... I wasn't sure if there was going to be a "main" dish. Chicken wings are more of a snack type serving.

Thankyou, coleslaw is a definite. I think I can now source buffalo wings, and we'll have ribs, is key lime pie an American desert?
