    2p – 3[4p – {8p + 1}]

                    -12p      +     24p  +   3

Note:  The minus sign in front of the 3   makes the 3 negative.

    The minus sign outside ( ) makes 8p + 1 negative.

A negative times negative equals positive.

    -12p  +  24p  +  3  =  12p  +  3

Note:  A negative + a positive = negative or positive. Subtract with                        bigger number.

    2p  +  12p  +  3  =

    Answer:  14p + 3
