HIV is the Human Immunodefiency virus - it is a retrovirus and there is more than one type geographically. Often people with HIV are said to have AIDS which is incorrect as HIV progresses to AIDS (then quite terminal) and happens more quickly in this country UK or even USA - slower in Africa. Better to follow the link that daren1 has given where all will be explained and hopefully all the myths associated with HIV dispelled.
