Do you trust your Doctor? Are they the new "Used car dealers"? (Snake oil salesman)

I have two, a GP and a Cardiologist. When asked a question they give me that stare, The "dear in the headlight" look. They tell me when to return to the office for a visit, or they won't refill my meds. Which is usually 90 days. I don't have much of a choice of providers given where I live. I feel like throwing them both out of a window whenever I see them.

I trust mine at this point, as they haven't given me reason not to yet. But, notice that I've said yet at the end of that sentence. The ones I don't trust are the doctors in hospitals who rotate amongst other doctors on a daily basis, so that no one particular doctor can be held responsible for their decisions regarding their patients. That practice doesn't have the best interest of the patient as its focus, and promotes a continual change in medications, when the original medication was effective. It also promotes the experimentation of new and lesser known drugs being administered, without the patient's well being, being monitored as closely. I've seen this with my own eyes, as I saw those changes in medication seriously threaten a family member's well being, and eventually lead to her death. While it is going on in front of unsuspecting family members, it just goes on, as no one is aware of what's been happening until it's happened.

You make a very good point.

It took me years to find the Doctor that I have now.  He truly listens.  He understands my natural approach to health and he's a great man.

Your very lucky. I feel like cattle while waiting for this moron in a waiting room with dozens of people in it.

It took years Ed... I was without a Doctor for 10 years.

I got real nervous the last time in the emergency room. There was a translator with the ER doctor. After a few stitches he gave me a script for enough pain killers to put a country to sleep.

I do shift work, getting anything to help me sleep is like extracting teeth,

Many doctors just write too many scripts for barbiturates. No wonder half the country is addicted.

I value their advise. I`ve seen bad drs with poor  ethics, not good. Sometimes I feel like you have to fight for your healthcare. They like perks from  pharmacy salesmen.***************************

    I have never trusted doctors....

I like my GP though he tries to blame my drinking and smoking for some of my problems, that's just him. But he is a good doctor.  I like my shrink and endocrinologist. I see everybody every three months.....

Tomorrow someone in the world will be visiting the best doctor--

Tomorrow someone in the world will be visiting the worst doctor.

Which doctor are you going to visit?

Simple choice huh?? But we have no way of knowing the answer to this so this is why it is so important to get different opinions especially on life threatening decisions or decisions that will alter your life.  I do trust my doctor but I trust myself more. If he says something I have concern over, I will research and find another doctor--if I find that they disagree, I will find another doctor.  All this takes time but make the wrong decision and your time is up.

We used to have a real nice old country Doctor in this town, that everyone liked, He retired and moved away. I have to drive 45 min to see a Dr. that I dont like very much. Most Drs. closer by wont take new patients. It is a serious problem . I go twice a year  to see my Dr..Thats enough for me.

I travel interstate to see a doctor, it's almost impossible to secure an appointment with any doctor in the country area I live in unless I can plan an illness a moth ahead, I walked around with a life threatening illness for 10 months after being fobbed off as having pneumonia,I now have lost most lung function in both lungs and was told I was just lucky the bacteria hadn't attacked my heart yet, I have surgery (in fact 7 all up) scheduled for some pretty shabby healthcare I received, I'm in the top healthcare scheme that means squat, I too now research doctors, have found competent specialists but no local G.P that is available. Our medical care is sadly lacking
