What rights are the employer for an employee who doesn't show up for work after being denied vacation time

A small company of 3 FT and 1 PT employees.  1 FT employee had requested afternoon off and another the morning 2 weeks in advance or more.  3RD FT employee came in day before requesting the next 2 days off.  Employer told him it would not work due to others being off already.  Employee did not show up for work.  This is the 3rd time this has happened.  Can employee be fired if so what grounds?

In the U.S., unless the employee has a contract guaranteeing them more than a pay check, the employee is considered an "at will employee." They can be fired or let go for any other reason than discrimination or retaliation for whistle-blowing. You should have Dept. of Labor posters available stating this...and they are supposed to be posted in a conspicuous place that employees can read them.
