i am assuming the 3100 is a general motor co. engine in a chevy and if so the t. chain has slack due to either the tensioner has come apart or not as common but it does happen the t. chain guides have come apart. the plastic part that it is attached to the steel part do serarate and fall off toward the oil pan.
