    i have a 2001 dodge 1500 5 speed manual the tail shaft sounds like grinding in 1, 2 , 3 and 5 gears not in 4 as bad can i leave tranny in truck and pull the tail shaft and anyone know what could be wrong with itdoes

    I have done uni joints on different cars and I can`t see your truck being different.


    The tail shaft is held to the front of the differential housing by 4 studs . Remove these and the tail shaft can be pushed a little forward into the gear box and then drop back end of shaft down and pull out of box.


    The uni joints are held by circlips that have to be removed to take old uni out.


    Suggest both front and rear unis replaced whilst you have tail shaft out.
