it depends. For example, if a police chases after a thieve into your premises, shoots and kills the guy (and the bad guy survives), he could end up suing you. Your insurance could end up paying him for the injury first, and could subsequently collect the amount paid from the insurance company covering the police department. This is called subrogation.

Fortuneatly they have changed this law i Aust., as such when criminal intent is envolved, the insurance will not pay out for this nor for any claims against your dog for mauling the crim on your premises.
