How long can a cat survive?

just wanted to know because my cats quite old and i want to know how long till i have to say goodbye.

Cats can live a long time. I know someone whos cat lived to be 26 yrs. old. They make wonderful pets and all you can do is love and pay attention to her. Old does not mean much as long as they are healthy. I have had cats all my life and I know how special they are.

I worked at an SPCA as a kid and a little old lady brought 2 cats in to be euthanized as she felt they were too old.Well,we observed those two all day and as old as they were they appeared to have an excellent quality of health.We called that woman back and told her there was no reason to put them down and did she want them back?She was so relieved as she'd had some time to re-think and regret her decision and she rushed right back to pick up her 26 and 28 year old house-cats!!Peace.

Just enjoy her presence. If she is old, then take her to the vet and check that everything is in order. If she is in difficulty, i.e. liver, failing heart, only extremes, not that she no longer catches mice, do her a kindness because you won't want her to suffer and you won't want to wake up and find her dead; very distressing. Give her everything that she wants, her favorites and lots of love and affection. The general idea is 20 years of a human life, while Dogs have 14 because they are more active life and the age depends on the size of dog while it does not for cats. Indoor cats tend to live longer than outdoor tame types.

WE. all must say good bye to our "Pets .They are like Humans could live to old age or die young through illness .If you had your cat for a long time give it "Love having fun .You will be rewarded with more "Love the best friend always "Faithful .So when that sad day comes "NO pain just past away in it!s Sleep .You have happy "Memory's Take care.

My cat "Louie" was 24 when she passed away in my lap. I'm not really crazy about animals but I never want to see one hurt. Smartest and cleanest cat ever. Never went near people food, (an occsional can of tuna) only ate dry dog food. Never sat on the furniture or clawed anything in the house. I miss my fuzzy buddy.

This by TSC is a bit much even for my robust sense of humour. I daresay the pic is a fake, and the cat was released after a minute of so with the power off. But there've been far too many instances of this sort of thing being done for real, and it antedates microwaves. There's a reference in a story by Theodore Sturgeon to a kid who put a kitten in a centrifuge. There are also references to a live cat being put in a leather bag with a draw-string, then hung up and used for archery practice. A girl I used to know from an in-bred village in Oxfordshire told me of a local entertainment which consisted of tying two cats together by their tails, then hanging them over a washing line and letting them fight.

None of this is at all funny, and I would have all perpetrators of such acts disembowelled, slowly, in sight of their families.

TSC, this was insensitive. You may not like cats but megzz loves hers. The clip was hurtful so I've removed it.

Depends on the quality of life the cat is given, i have just lost my cat of old age, she was 18.I never once had her to a vet.

Its nice to know we have cat lovers. I have four, all adopted. Like to threaten them going to put them on the street with small signs around there necks to collect money for cat food. The thought of losing one of them well I'll just think about that tomorrow.
