    I'm not sure on this but some small blocks were .065.

    before the 90' chevy small blocks in general had the HEI ignition systems . the plug gap back then was at .060" but the newer 5.3 or 6.0 chevy  engine has coils for every cylinder that builds about 60,000 volts. with that kind of power the gap in not so critical  as it was with the more primitive HEI system of only 35,000 volt system. the gap is more for burning the fuel mixture better in order to achieve  better emissions.
