Statute law is law passed by cities, counties, states and federal governments. It is a 'written' law. Common law, not accepted in all states or communities, are accepted as fact after several years. Example: common law marriages are accepted in many states but not all. It is two people, man and woman, who have lived together as husband and wife for several years within that state.
