This isn`t an easy one to explain!...It varies ...Your lung Capacity can be measured with a simple test...using a "Peak Flow Meter"...basically by exhaling sharply into a tube...the results vary between men/women...smoking often reduces your lung capacity and conditions such as asthma etc...for a male the peak flow should register between 300-500..women slightly lower...But the main concern is how much Oxygen is circulating around the body...this is tested by a Oxygen Saturation monitor..clipped onto you finger for a few seconds which gives the results of the percentage of oxygen in your blood stream....Ideally it should register in the high 90 per cent....if its as low as 80 p/c that`s cause for concern because it can drop very rapidly at that level!:-(...exercise and stopping smoking and breathing exercises can help improve your lung capacity....Check it out with your GP or Practice Nurse if you have concerns.
Hope that helps you,millie x
