What are your thoughts on the possible Scotland independence?

The Scottish Government intends to hold a referendum of the Scottish electorate
on the issue of independence from the United Kingdom in the autumn of 2014.

How will the individual Scotland citizen be impacted by it?

Are you for or against it?

I  personally do not have an opinion, but from what I have read, the number of Scots in favor is less than 40%, in recent polls.

    What is your home country?

The USA, where we have a far greater problem, we have the task of getting Obama out of office.

I'll do my part although in California I've been wasting my votes for too many years...

I honestly don't know enough about the situation in Scotland to give an unbiased opinion..But if the majority of the people are in favor more power to ya..

    Thank you Daren

Sorry valR I missed this Q.

If you had asked me 35yrs ago when they were just opening up the oil fields in the North Sea I would have cut Scotland off from the rest of the UK forever and we would have benefited immensely from the income produced, and still would have been by the way.

    Now, I,m not so sure.

Because of previous Conservative governments destroying Scottish industries and Westminster drawing every bit of oil revenue to benefit mainly those in the prosperous SE UK without investing it elsewhere I don,t think it could or would be economically viable for Scotland to seek independence anymore, "unfortunately".

It will be a sad day for me and many more Scots when we vote NO in the referendum but our little country cannot afford to go it alone any more (in my opinion),

We do have our own devolved Parliament however and we are gaining more power and tax raising revenue for our own country.

Scottish born and bred, PROUD TO BE A TRUE SCOT!

Although my answer appears below yours now, it was above yours before...I knew you would be the one to answer this...I may be an American but I have some Scot blood in me!

I'm from the United States, and I really don't have an opinion either. I think it should go the way the people of Scotland want it. But you have to be careful of what anyone from America says, the last time they mentioned anything about pulling away from England, they ended up with the Revolutionary War!

    Romos...where are you???

    valR

He busy with the fleas... :)

Did you understand my accent ok?
    lol.....

I am a Scot by birth and consider that Scottish independance is a nonsense. The Scots will continue to demand aid from the rest of the UK to pay for their appalling health problems largely caused by poor diet and excessive alcohol consumption.

Is the sea oil behind the move?

valR the oil and gas are going to be finished in a few years. The UK government has squandered the oil revenue by giving tax cuts to the rich. Norway, however, has used its oil revenue to improve their infrastructure and create a stable prosperous society (which could see no reason to join the EC).

"What about Health problems in England more drinkers bad diets .Get your facts "Right more oil fields are being found .You do not pay Scotland you Cheat .By given little in return for oil fields .The revenue was never used for the UK people Tory Labour squandered it away YOU should be Ashamed to call yourself a SCOT .ME Iam all for the younger Generation if they want Independance I will give them my "VOTE" so enjoy England if your not working .Then they are keeping you.

    See what I mean?

I think it would be a bad decision. There has always been a shortage of jobs in Scotland. There is a drinking problem and increase knife fights. I don't see how they can afford to stand without England. I don't get all the news, so I don't know what all is involved. I just think it would be a poor choice.

This "tax cuts for the rich," is all crap!   Every time you or I  made more money in our life we paid MORE taxes and we paid the taxes as a HIGHER rate as well.

When my income doubled, I paid more than DOUBLE the amount of tax, when my income doubled again I paid more than DOUBLE the amount of tax AGAIN.

Not too many years ago the average working man in the US was in the 15% tax bracket, now the average working man in the US was in the 28% tax

The ONLY real tax cut in my life time was to the POOR, under George W Bush, who lowered the minumun  tax rate for the working man down to 10%, from the 15% that had always been the minimum tax rate since the Feds started to tax imcome, rather than property

I'm just an ignorant American and don't understand the issue.............

    valR

    I respect your honesty... :)

    Thank you, sad but true..........
