      5x - 20y = 10
      x is 6    y is 1
      5*6  - 20*1 = 10


      30 - 20 = 10


      I'm not sure how to show you the steps.  It is just obvious to me.   (It usually isn't.  Believe me.)

        5x-20y=10


        Step 1. Add 20y to both sides.


        5x  -  20y  +  20y   =  20y  +  10


        5x  =  20y  +  10


        Step 2. Divide by 5 on both sides.


        5x/5  =  20y/5  +  10/5


        Answer:


        x  =  4y  +  2


        Check:


        5(4y  +  2)  -  20y  =  10


        20y  +  10  -  20y  =  10  >  the 20y's cancels out.


        10  =  10
