An experiment was conducted in the 1960's and repeated in the 2010, to see if man had evolved or devolved into something more primitive. The test was on compassion and empathy for strangers you just met. How do you think the score came out? Did we evolve?

    the experiment findings.

Women of any color have more compassion and empathy than men. They scored 25% LOWER THAN IN 1960.

Black men score higher than white men, but 20% lower than in 1960.

White men Scored the lowest, and 20% lower than in 1960.

    I'm curious, why?

The 60's (in America) was an interesting time but People seemed friendlier and more concerned for other's well being. Now people seem to have a "somebody else will help them" attitude. I think there is more fear today...of contaminated blood, becoming a 'victim' of a crime from someone "faking needing help" etc. Crime has changed. We have changed as a society (no not all of us and some places are friendlier than others).

I bet this test was not a double blind test. Opinion tests are not tests but are justifications for opinions that prejudicial folk have to “prove” their opinions are “true” so that they have a platform of “authority” from which to damn the world and preach the gospel of radicalism. “Idiocracy”  (the movie) presented a world based on the vision of senselessness becoming a popular cultural direction in a future scenario. I’m not betting on fantasy land realities.

Believe it or not rg I couldn,t give a creditable answer to this question because I don,t think it actually has one......KOTF

It was the same test. It was given to the same number of blacks, whites, men and women as the first test. The results were different. You could not do a double blind experiment, this was a social experiment. It is human behavior vs.time.

I would bet that according to the results, we have devolved. But, like Robert Grist said, there are certain procedures for these sorts of tests, in order for them to have any reliability or validity.

The developmental psychology of folk over a span of time is a considerable influence of the test subjects. 1960 to 2010 is fifty years!  So how old were the folk involved in the first test in 1960? and second test in 2010. We have stats on attitudes over time in developmental psychology and these state are updated periodically to see how various trends and influences affect cultures.  That was part of the UN WHO studies but these studies have been sketchy due to funding variables. For a while the CIA world fact book was pretty good but the UK was better. Their studies were out of Oxford mostly. From my experience we seem to be doing better than ever and there seems to be lots of optimism that was not present after the mid-1950s. The Nuclear threat was in your face everyday then.

Both groups were in their thirties. Half were childless, the other half had children. It was for the most part and identical test. The test is on compassion and empathy.
