If you spouse died in 2011, you file as MFJ, if I am not mistaken. You can file as Qualifying Widow(er) for two years after that, and then Head of Household if you have people living with you and you are the primary support. (I think I'm getting this straight).
What changes in income will you experience during all of 2012 that you did NOT experience during 2011? Will you receive any financial benefits from your spouse's death? Do you have exemptions, do you itemize, can you claim EIC? How old are you? Did you double check your data?
There are so many factors to consider that it's hard to give you a reliable answer without seeing the numbers. You may want to discuss this with one of those free tax pros at Turbo Tax.
