w + 4 < -2  (Get the unknown alone....get rid of +4 by subtracting...the opposite of addition)
w + 4 - 4 < -2 -4 (Keep equation balanced; what you do on one side of the <, you do on the other)
w < -6  (You are left with the answer that w is less than -6)
ANY number that is less than -6 will make the equation true. 

Chelleanne and I generally get the same answer (because we are both incredibly smart women, right Chelleanne?!).  We get there a little differently.  

w + 4 < -2

w + 4 < -2 

     -4      -4

Teaching how to cheat.

Getting the answers to your homework questions, by asking someone else to do it for you, is not the way to learn.  You will not be very successful in life, if you do not learn how to think for yourself.  Did you even try to calculate the answer?
