    Can the executor of a family estate donate a house to a non-profit and can the estate recieve a tax benefit from the donation?

    The executor of the estate must do exactly as dictated in the will.  If the will does not say the house must be sold, then they could donate it and yes, the estate would receive a tax credit but that would hold up putting the estate through probate until the following year when you would use the credit. Refer to the lawyer who drew up the will for questions like this. They can answer better according to the laws of your state.
