AA synthetic sugar that is broken down by bacteria in the colon into products that draw water and ammonia into the colon.

LACTULOSE is a laxative used to soften stools !!:->...When constipated, there are two main types of actions to allieviate and get the bowel functioning ..one are laxatives which increase the peristalsis..ie..sqeezing the muscles of the bowel to move the faeces down..and out!!:-0...lol...but can cause stomach cramps...see pharmacist for details...(make sure you take the directed dose to avoid this)!..Lactulose works as stated above..as when constipated water is drawn from the bowel and stools are therefore harder and the problem often worsens!...Sometimes rectal glycerin suppositories are recommended as they work quickly often within 20 mins or so...to induce bowel action!..AND help avoid future episodes by drinking plenty of fluids and a high roughage, balanced diet!!....lol...I can`t believe i`m braving answering such a question at 01.30hrs!!LOL...good luck!!;->>
