    If You Speak Spanish, do you speak with an American accent so people wont think you're Mexican?

    I speak fluent Spanish in a Scottish accent, yet I find nobody understands what I,m saying,WHY? WHY?

    When I was in Italy, people thought I was Italian because of the way I look.  Same in Oklahoma, they think I'm Native American, Same in Mexico, they think I'm Spanish. I think that  looks are more deceiving than an accent.  When I spoke Italian they knew right away I was an American due to the accent.   Most English speaking people that do speak fluent Spanish have an accent.

    I've always loved to imitate accents and am pretty good at it. I guess my theories are sometimes overly critical! Occasionally people detect an accent in me and ask. I tell them that my Mom's family was from Iowa and my Dad's from Oregon to which some reply,"Oh, that must be it."!
